Emerson in California

My review of Brian C. Wilson's book, The California Days of Ralph Waldo Emerson (University of Massachusetts Press, 2022) appeared in the Emerson Society Papers newsletter. The book tells the fascinating story of Emerson's 1871 transcontinental railroad trip, a visit and lecture in San Francisco, and the infamous meeting that left a young John Muir wanting more time with the Sage of Concord.

I love Emerson's musings on California in the quote I included at the end of the review.
